Kelly is a 7-month old puppy who was found unconscious, dehydrated, malnourished, with a terrible skin condition and injured back legs. She was saved by the amazing rescue team, ARTT and nursed back to health.
Kelly still needs surgery for her injured leg(s). Based on the xrays alone, one vet recommended TPLO surgery for her torn ACL. Estimated cost is about $3,000.
But Kelly's more immediate problem is that she needs a home. She's been boarding at the hospital.
I contemplated taking her in, but that was before we found out about her legs. It was almost too much for me when I cared for Bandit after his orthopedic surgery last year while at the same time caring for Popeye, an experience I know better than to try to repeat especially with my extra work schedule now.
Robin, Miko's foster mom, also thought about taking Kelly in but we decided that the attention required for a new dog, and a puppy at that, recuperating from surgery would only hinder Miko's socialization progress.
Then in stepped Crazy Lady, who adopted Sugar, a once-fearful dog, from us a year and a half ago. Crazy Lady has offered to foster Kelly. Crazy Lady has had prior experience with orthopedic surgery, so Kelly will be in good hands. And since Crazy Lady is already crazy, Sugar's naughty influence on Kelly can't make her too much crazier. Right?
Now, we just wait for the opportunity to open up to actually get Kelly here.
In the meantime, Maggie from ARTT sent this clip today.
